Another book review? About time your probably thinking haha. It seems I may have been slacking a little with the whole variety of posts and strayed mostly to beauty (Sorry I couldn't help myself) I am now 100% organised and feeling fabulous I made myself a blog planner and it's working so much better for me. I have been reading so much lately, reading is my key to relaxation it let's me escape for a little while.
Over the festive period everybody I knew was obsessing over this book. I can't lie when I seen the book it was gorgeous to look at pretty much like Alexa Chung herself. If you don't know who Alexa Chung is (And some people genuinely don't AKA my boyfriend) She is an English television presenter, model and contributing editor at British Vogue. She is a pretty BIG DEAL to the Fashion industry and an ICON for sure. This is her first and only book so I was pretty excited to see an insight to her life and get to see inside her head and thoughts a little.
The book is titled "IT" when I saw this it drew to mind the Stephen King novel/film. (I am terrified of clowns) Which freaked me out a little but this paired with the picture of the lovely sparkly eye made me totally intrigued. Before I bought the book there was a lot of mixed reviews so I wasn't really sure what to expect.
There is a couple of things I'd like to point out straight off the bat if you are thinking about reading this:
This is NOT an autobiography.
This book doesn't contain loads of personal information.
It's filled with pictures and sketches.
It's an easy read it will take you a day at most.
It is insanely random and doesn't have a plot really.
Because there is no synopsis on the back of the book it can be misleading. I was a little disheartened to find out it wasn't an autobiography but more or less a whole lot of random.
Verdict:
Overall I liked this book. I really enjoyed the tips and guides inside, and all the great quotes. Although it was really random and quirky I guess that may well be Alexa's personality. You only get to see a few vague personal feelings and memories which I really enjoyed, I wish there was more. Some of the sketches are also very cool because it expresses her feelings at the time. Also it was really great to see who influenced her style and her ICON'S. It was a really nice, funny and beautiful book with loads of go to tips and a book you could re-read again and again for inspiration. (It would also look fabulous on a book shelf or coffee table)
The bad points are that she starts of talking about her life growing up and then jumps to different stuff constantly through out the book, so you find yourself pretty lost and confused at times. Also there is a hell of a lot of pictures and sketches and maybe not a lot of writing sadly. Basically don't expect too much because your setting yourself up for disappointment. I sadly was hoping for an autobiography, with some ground breaking fashion and beauty advice and experiences, with loads of personal insight and really just who the real Alexa Chung is. That wasn't the case so I was pretty disheartened. Was it worth the money? Hmm not sure. I bought it from WHSmith for £17.
Here are some of my favourite pages!
Have you read this book, what is your opinion? Are you thinking about reading it, I hoped this helped! As always Thank You for reading.
